He was super nice as he put new tires on the trailer, new spare tire and cleaned and repacked the wheel bearings before I picked it up. I have never had or ridden a sled before but thought it was a super neat piece to show down South where we don't see snow that much.ĭan liked the other dyno I have and we enjoyed sharing stories about their history. He has retired and wanted to thin the heard of sleds he had. He had put it all together and would take it to vintage sled shows. I got the sled, dyno, and trailer from Dan Netzer in Juneau, WI. The old machines ignition wasn't as shielded as todays machines. Since I never saw the romance of snow mobiles, I thought the primary reason was to run from bar to bar in packs and cause the old cathode ray tube televisions to do their interpretation of a oscilloscope on drugs. Massey built or badged snow machines also, just like every thing else, your money belongs in their till whether it's a snow machine, bicycle or a witty t-shirt. Not much difference than when they came out with the Gator. all farm jobs you may have to do in the snow. Check cattle, work on fence, haul firewood, etc. I can see why JD would want to sell those. Can be a lot of fun up to that point though. Posted 13:29 (#6561247 - in reply to #6561184) Subject: RE: New toy for me!Įver drove a 4wheeler in the snow? Once you get deeper than 6-8" most won't go. We don't have much of that white stuff you call snow. What the heck are snowmobiles even for? Like, wouldn't a four wheeler fulfill the same purpose? Sorry, southerner speaking here. Okay, so I did a 2 minute education through a Google search, but my question that still remains is, why did John Deere build snowmobiles once upon a time? This seems like a strange, very specific product to be targeted by an ag OEM.Įdit to add: You know what, while we are on this topic, I am going to take my questions one step further. So did you buy the dyno to? Nice looking 300. My dad had 2 of those John Deere 300's when I was in high school. I had a John Deere 300 back in the late 70's through about 1990.

That 300 looks clean, was it ever used in snow? or just on Dyno? They are collectible now. and different clutch springs for snowmobiles. and had a similar dyno where we could tune carbs. Send me your number in an email and I'll gladly call you back if you don't like texting or committing here on AgTalk. I'll post my pictures and hope someone can add to the small amount of information I have. I was told that the factory had a unit for testing sleds and this one was taken around to dealers to schedule tunups for customer sleds.

OTC is known as the supplier of special repair tools for John Deere dealers and others. The sticker shows that OTC had something to do with this tester under the name Service. Get the sled tuned while staying dry and warm in the shop. The sled is sitting on dyno style machine to load the motor of the sled while it is being tuned up. New toy for me!
